1. What is your “why”? What is your purpose?
Having a reason to workout is one of the best ways to stay motivated. Are you doing it to be healthier? To be a role model for your family? Is it because you have a sexy new dress that you want to wear to an upcoming event? Whatever the reason is, having a “Why” keeps you going back to the gym. The stronger the “Why”, the easier it is to stay motivated. So, what is your “Why”?
2. Climbing Mt. Everest.
When you climb Mount Everest, you cannot climb it all at once. The climb is broken up into smaller climbs and camps. This makes an almost insurmountable task achievable. Breaking workouts up into smaller “climbs” makes it easier mentally and helps us keep the intensity up. If the workout is five rounds, instead of looking at it as doing all five rounds, think of it as one round done five times. If you have 50 Wallballs, break it up into 5 sets of 10, etc. These smaller goals help you mentally keep your motivation and intensity high.
3. Embrace your Grass
“Embrace your grass” is from the concept of “The grass is always greener on the other side.” We often compare ourselves to other people which then can lead to a feeling of being inadequate. By focusing on other people’s “grass” we lose motivation because we don’t feel worthy. The truth is that the grass is not greener on the other side. The grass is greener where you water it. We can water our own grass by using positive self-talk, affirmations and choosing to enjoy the moment. By focusing on and watering our own “grass” it helps us to celebrate successes. So next time you get caught up in other people's grass, try watering your own grass and see just how green it truly is.
Hopefully these tips help keep you motivated to get not only start your workout, but also keep your intensity up, and feeling great about what you are accomplishing!
Happy WOD’ing!
