Mama Modifications

One of the many perks of being a Street Parking member is being able to pick and choose your workouts and movements from the daily programming options A, B, C, and Shift.  Most of you also know that with each one of those programming options there are always additional ways to substitute or modify based on your needs or equipment.  However, what might be new to some of you is the addition of Mama Modifications for every workout in all of the SP Daily Programming that can be found on the Members Only website!

The Mama Modifications are options for movements that during pregnancy or the rebuilding stages of postpartum might need additional adjustments or scaling. The Mama Modifications include details on why or when you may want to modify as well as various options that would be safe, effective, and still within the intended stimulus of the overall programming.

We are in the process of adding demo videos and photos of these additional modifications to the Members Only website and are excited to make them available soon! In the meantime, if you are unsure of how to perform a movement, you can find most of the options for Mama Modifications on the BIRTHFIT YouTube channel or you can always reach out on the SP Pregnant/Postpartum Mom’s Private Facebook Group

Postpartum Nutrition Templates

We know that navigating the postpartum recovery period is challenging to say the least. The SP Nutrition Template is here to help gently guide you towards healthy, sustainable, and long lasting nutrition habits. The Postpartum Templates are clear, simple, and easy to use. We’ve even had a lot of success with moms using the templates and maintaining or increasing their milk supply! You also have the additional options of one on one coaching and check ins with our SP Nutrition coach, Molly Vollmer! The Nutrition Templates are available to purchase on the Members Only website.

Functional Progression Warm Up Videos:

We teamed up with Dr. Erica Boland, of Coulee Health and the creator of the Conscious Core program, for a warm up sequence specifically for the core and pelvic floor.  This unique series of movements is designed to help you connect to and strengthen the entire system of your core. It is an excellent option for anyone, but especially pregnant and postpartum women, who struggle with symptoms of core dysfunction like lower back pain, diastasis, incontinence, etc.   The video is about 15 minutes in length and there are a few different options for modifications at the end of each version of the video. Once you get comfortable with the movements you can try the Functional Progression Flow which moves a little more fluidly and is less instructional. This warm up would be great to add into your regular routine, before or even after your workouts, or as a great low impact option for your active recovery days!  These videos can be found on the Members Only website under the "MOVE" tab!

SP Prenatal and Postpartum Maintenance Videos:

The SP Maintenance library contains around 40 yoga and stretching videos. Many of the videos are specific to an area or body part like Hip Flexors/Psoas or Neck/Shoulders and average around 10 minutes in length. There are also quite a few videos that are longer, more complete, full body videos and range between 25-55 minutes in length including a Prenatal and Postpartum video. These videos are great options for Mamas to help with recovery and relief from all of the aches and pains that come with growing a human! We also include a suggestion for which Maintenance videos to use before and after each workout and share this on our Member's Only website along with the workout descriptions.

BIRTHFIT Conscious Core and the Street Parking Postpartum Bundles:

At Street Parking, we feel that taking time to intentionally heal, rehab, and recover in the postpartum period is critical to your long term health and fitness.  We also believe that it is never too late to do the intentional healing and rebuilding of your core and pelvic floor! This is why Miranda created the Postpartum Bundles and included the Conscious Core program as an option to help guide you through the healing and rehabbing stages of postpartum and support you in a safe and strong transition to the Street Parking Shift or Daily programming.

The BIRTHFIT Conscious Core program is a 6 week online course with programming for 3 days a week. It’s based in developmental kinesiology and designed to help you understand, connect to, and strengthen the function of your core and pelvic floor. It is safe to start as early as 3 or 4 weeks postpartum but still effective for mamas many, many years postpartum. The work taught in the Conscious Core program is meant to be done slowly and mindfully and is going to be challenging in a way that is very different from your regular fitness or Street Parking programming. It might even feel more like physical therapy and the part of your brain that might find this type of rehab work tedious or unexciting is exactly the part of your brain and the neural pathways that we are trying to strengthen and get working intuitively with the system of your core, so that when it is time to gradually add load, reps, intensity, and impact you can do so confidently and safely.

The Conscious Core program should be approached with lots of intention and patience as you rebuild a foundation for long lasting fitness and health. We normally suggest you complete the Conscious Core program in its entirety and then start (or restart) your SP Membership and begin with the Mama Modifications and Shift workouts and slowly add more complex or higher intensity as you continue to build your strength and endurance.
